The McMaster Outdoor Club starts its story as the McMaster Outers Club, which started off in the early 1960’s and was a McMaster Student Union (MSU) Club. We planned trips of all types at this time from camping, hiking, canoeing, backpacking, snowshoeing to climbing, and whitewater kayaking. In 1997 the club left the MSU and became a club under McMaster Outdoor Recreation under the Department of Athletics and Recreation. This new club was called the McMaster Outdoor Club and was, and still is, championed by Wayne Terryberry (Coordinator of Outdoor Recreation and Natural Lands). From May 2014 to April 2016 the three clubs McMaster Climbing Club, McMaster Whitewater Club, and the McMaster Outdoor Club came together under the umbrella of the McMaster Adventure Recreation Clubs (MARC). During this time the three clubs shared one $50 membership and although operated independently, worked together under the larger umbrella of MARC. After April 2016 the three clubs separated and again had separate memberships, but still maintained a close working relationship. Shortly after this time the McMaster Whitewater Club disbanded and was absorbed into the McMaster Outdoor Club.

Please note: We are always trying to update our clubs history. If you are a past or present club member/alumni we would love your input on building our clubs story. If you are a past club exec that we haven’t listed please contact us so we can add you to our proud history!
Are you a MOC alumni or outdoor enthusiast? Consider supporting the work of MOC through a donation! We are a volunteer driven club that receives no external funding from McMaster. All funds raised by the club go back to supporting MOC's important work. Donations can be made here and charitable gift receipts are available.
